BEST SPRING LOCATIONS IN RALEIGH - NORTH CAROLINA PHOTOGRAPHER
Whether you're a family wanting updated photos, a couple who needs an engagement session, an expecting mama who wants to capture this glorious moment in time, or a graduating senior who wants epic shots, I wanted to share some favorite Raleigh area photo locations with you for spring.
First UP: THE WRAL AZALEA GARDEN!
I did my spring minis here in 2024 and the blooms did. not. disappoint. This place is like a secret garden only minutes from downtown Raleigh. The WRAL Azalea Garden is near N.C. State's campus off Western Blvd., so it's a convenient, central location for a lot of families. This place is a crowd favorite in the Raleigh area for sure, so it gets BUSY in the spring. I usually have to arrive pretty early (and ask couples/families to meet me early) to have good access. They also hold events here, so it's necessary to check their calendar of events before planning your session here. All that being said... it's certainly a gem! So many colorful blooms, including fluffy peonies in early April!
A CARY NEIGHBORHOOD FAVorite: MacDonald Woods Park - Cary, NC Photographer
I did a mini maternity shoot here one April. I LOVED having the creek option. I didn't want to ask the very beautiful (and very pregnant!) Meriam to get into the creek, but I envision this being a super fun spot to END ;) a family shoot.
Raleigh Rose Garden - Raleigh, NC Photographer
This Raleigh photo location is a popular, versatile spot for families (and romantic for couples!!!) in late spring/summer. It's located right behind Raleigh Little Theater. The roses here are breathtaking -- blooms start arriving in May and go until late summer/fall. I did my spring minis here last year (2025) and although the roses hadn't fully come in yet, there was a gorgeous camellia tree (dark pink blooms), a Chinese Fringetree (white blooms) as well as some pretty purple ground-level flowers. There is also a stone pergola-covered path and a lovely fountain. A perk I enjoy most: there is ample room for kids to run around without feeling like you're losing them, ha! Pups are allowed on a leash.
Historic OAk View Park - Raleigh, NC Photographer
I know this is an extremely popular spot for fall photos, but I love it in the spring as well! The property has some gorgeous hydrangeas and azaleas that bloom in April. And there's a cute porch with rockers and rustic farm houses. I did a round of spring minis at Historic Oak View last year! A huge plus (IMO): pets are allowed! Love those doggies. AND... if you bring your own carrots and apples, you can feed the goats after!
JC RaulSTON ARBORETUM - Raleigh, NC Family Photographer
While the above mentioned Raleigh-area photo locations are more intimate and curated, the JC Raulston Arborteum is more spacious and immersive. I often recommend this spot if your immediate family is on the larger side or for an extended family session. The abundant dirt paths are are great for exploring and offer natural breaks for little wanderers and explorers. This natural beauty is awesome for spring and summer!
