For 20+ years, I've photographed a lot of milestones: weddings, families, expecting mothers, anniversaries, newborns, momentous birthdays, the list goes on... But I've only recently started photographing seniors. I've only photographed a handful and spoiler alert: I ALREADY LOVE IT. I think making portraits of young adults is especially meaningful because of the transition they represent. I can still remember that time in my life — the closing of one phase and the beginning of another. There are so many emotions flowing — pride, nostalgia, nerves, excitement — all wrapped up together. As a photographer, I love the idea that I’m not just capturing how someone looks but who they are at this exact point in their journey.
Photographing this young woman was such a rewarding experience for me. Tanishka showed up to her session at the NCMA art park with confidence, poise and just ready to have fun. She trusted my guidance and posing completely, going from "I have no idea what to do" to really nailing some gorgeous, timeless shots by the end.
